The Immigration Fight Isn't Over

As difficult as it is to talk about issues like this with our friends and families, we have a responsibility to challenge falsehoods and myths about immigrants and talk about the contributions they make to our communities. We need to transform the rhetoric into truth.

When politicians and talk show hosts simplify the immigration issue into a few sound bites, it ends up sounding like the issue boils down to our country needing to be protected from dangerous illegals who bring crime and drugs into our country while taking advantage of social programs offered here.

I don’t know much about immigration, but I do know the real issues are much more complicated than this, and, while I don’t have numbers to back this up, I would guess that the stories of most immigrants coming to this country are much different than the one told by those who talk so vehemently about “securing our borders.”

I would love to see the conversation elevated among Christians, whether they are conservative or liberal in their politics.  It seems many of us agree comprehensive immigration reform is necessary.  Who out there is talking about how to get it done?

Willow Branches in Autumn Winds Sixpence None the Richer has a lyric: "My thoughts were like willow branches caught in autumn winds." That is a perfect description of my brain. This blog is where I get those thoughts out of my head and into the world.
