Willow Branches in Autumn Winds

Road Trip

Mark, Isaac and I are in St. Louis this week, visiting City Lights, InterVarsity’s urban project here. This afternoon Mark heard a great teaching on being sons and not orphans, and how the Holy Spirit plays into that distinction. We have been learning lots from Gerry and Sharie, the directors of the project. City Lights is a great partnership between InterVarsity and New City Fellowship, a PCA Presbyterian church.

My main reason for wanting to come is to get an idea of how this project started and grew to the point where they have several hundred students who come through either a spring break plunge or summer project each year. The ministry revolves around the relationships that Gerry and Sharie and other members of New City Fellowship have with the neighborhood. A large chunk of their ministry is to refugees from all over the world who have been relocated to this city. I’m looking forward to the next couple of days to absorb as much as we can.

Willow Branches in Autumn Winds Sixpence None the Richer has a lyric: "My thoughts were like willow branches caught in autumn winds." That is a perfect description of my brain. This blog is where I get those thoughts out of my head and into the world.
